International Beer Day! The Cheese Interviews with Lakefront Brewery!
We are back with our perfect pairing series, this time to celebrate International Beer Day! We have teamed up with Lakefront Brewery to get the top tips on cheese and beer pairings… Heaven! Lakefront Brewery hold a 90 minute technical tour with, at the end, beer and food pairings put together ! Currently on their tour, they pair three of their beers with cheese, so we have left you in good hands!
1. What makes beer and cheese the perfect partnership?
Beer and cheese make a great combo. In my opinion, beer is the best to pair with anything. Beer has something most wines do not. Carbonation. The “carbonic bite” of any beer acts as a natural palate cleanser. Cheese, whether it’s nutty or creamy or sharp of “footy” will always bring out the malty sweetness that is present in any beer.
2. What beer would you match with our creamy sharp cheddar?
I would match Lakefront Brewery’s IPA with any sharp cheddar. The nuttyness and creaminess of the aged cheddars bring out a sweetness in an IPA that you don’t normally find. IPA’s are known for their hoppy bitterness. The sharp cheddar will temper that and bring out the malt body; the unsung hero of the IPA.
3. What are your top 5 beers for the summer season?
As a company man, and because employee pricing is oh so sweet I’m going for Lakefront beers in no particular order:
1- SMaSH Ale, our new summer seasonal. Easy drinking on any day.
2- Extended Play Session IPA. Hoppy but not overly bitter. It’s a patio beer.
3- Hop Jockey Double IPA. Super balanced and great on a day you’ve worked too hard.
4- Eastside Dark Lager. The campfire beer. Also my favorite.
5- Klisch Pilsner. Tailgating at Miller Park.
4. How do you decide on new beers to brew?
We look at industry trends and we decide what kind of beer we want to make. We also have the My Turn Series. Four times a year one of our employees gets to make whatever kind of beer he or she wants. Their name is right on the front of the bottles and six packs and when it’s gone, it’s gone.
5. Do you have a favourite cheese recipe?
My favorite cheese recipe is the classic grilled ham and cheese with American cheese. You can take the boy out of the midwest but you can’t take the midwest outta the boy.
6. What are your 5 must-have items on your dream cheese board?
5-year cheddar, cheese curd (I’m from Wisconsin), Dry Parmesan, Gruyere, and Manchego
7. If there were a beer that you could brew with no regards to cost or production or sales, what would it be and why?
