Entertaining top tips for Labor Day weekend!
It’s that time of year again! Yes, Labor Day is on its way and we’ve got some top tips and entertaining ideas for the long weekend’s celebrations. Whether you’re planning on heading down to the parade, staying in for a quiet family barbecue or organising a picnic with friends, see summer out with a bang!
Holidays are great, but because they’re great they’re busy! Don’t leave it until the last minute to go food shopping! Labor Day is one of the road’s busiest, and you don’t want to spend the day stuck in traffic when you could be out in the yard catching some rays with a gorgeous summer spread!
Traffic in general may mean you may choose to stay at home for the entire day. You don’t have to head to the park or the beach for a picnic, create a picnic-style Labor Day lunch in your own backyard so you’ve got the grill at hand too! If you’re thinking about heading down to a parade, make sure you leave with plenty of time!
Labor Day may be all about celebrating the US workforce, but this doesn’t mean spending the entire day laboring in the kitchen or by the grill when you could be enjoying the party! Prep is key, and a lot of appetizers, salads and vegetables can be grilled, cooked and prepared in advance. These Pepperoni Pizza Pinwheels can be prepared the day before, and even served cold.
Try not to be tempted to go crazy at the grill! A spread of cold and hob-cooked foods such as appetizers, pastas and salads with one meat from the grill can be just as impressive as adding individual meats such as pork chops, burgers and chicken kebabs into the mix (but often much less work than having to make sure each meat is cooked correctly and freshly cooked on the day!). Don’t forget it’s not just meats you can grill! This Parmesan Garlic Grilled Corn is something quick you can throw on the barbecue without too much effort and it tastes divine!
One word…S’mores! As the day draws to a close, why not celebrate in true American summer camp-out style with s’mores by an open fire. They’re bound to go down a winner and make an apt close to summer festivities. Not to mention, they’re an easy way to provide dessert! If you’re feeling like some baking, however, why not try out these heavenly S’mores Cups.
Accept help! Part of celebrating the workforce is recognizing how working together and as part of teams has helped us achieve what we have – and this doesn’t exclude cooking and hosting! Allow your guests to all bring a plate of food or drink to take the workload off you. That way you can enjoy everyone’s cooking and you don’t have to be couped up in the kitchen for the last day of summer!
Of course you going to want to salute the summer by sitting outdoors so get your game on! There’s tonnes of backyard games to spark playful competitiveness amongst your guests! Check out these DIY lawn games for some retro summer fun!
